The concept of family has changed a lot in the 21st century. In the 1700s only heterosexual marriages were reckoned with and the other LGBTQ+ were left to wonder in secrecy. The definition of family seems complex now than ever before. People have had pets and left them an inheritance that can feed a whole slum in Africa. So what really is family?Growing in the slums of kibra at Katwekera Sarang’ombe ward. All I ever saw was a mother, father and children type of marriage. All this hullabaloo I’m witnessing in this age and time sets my nerves at edge. However, that is not the point I want to dwell on.
From age immemorial, families have been where the back stops at in any event there are problems. Family was seen as the only place where someone’s mistakes could be hidden leave alone being accommodated. Have you noted that the trend is shifting in this generation. People are slowly moving away from blood ties and acknowledging those who impact their lives in a certain way as family. Have you ever questioned if the people around you are worth your family? What have been their impact in your life?I believe you have experienced these questions at one point in your life.
In my campus life, I had friends who were close to me more than a brother. When the family had all the resources, it is only my friend Peter who could afford to trust me with more than $40 to start off a business. Others have counseled me in the highways of life. A few have mentored me and others instilled in me s sense of belonging. Those are my family
